SBS KPOPSTAR S2 Winners Akdong Musician has chosen, Officially signs under YG Entertainment!

The agency stated through an official press release on May 24, “We can’t go into the details of the contract, but we’ve been meeting with Akdong Musician and their parents and have come to an amicable contract agreement and plan to formally sign them in the next few days.” 

The winner signing took longer than the previous season because the minor Akdong Musician members’ parents, who are residing in Mongolia, were unable to sign the proxy contract until now. Nonetheless, YG Entertainment is welcoming the duo with open arms.

“We thought that the place that would be able to back our music the best was YG,” stated Akdong Musician. “We want to make better music in a good environment.”

It can be seen that one of the main reasons Akdong Musican chose YG was because the duo was able to experience YG′s top of the line, professional systems firsthand as well as commune about music with the agency’s many in-house producers through the casting auditions on the show.

Season one′s Lee Hi’s track record with the agency could have also served as a pull towards YG.

YG’s Yang Hyun Suk said on signing Akdong Musician, “YG plans to be the glass and frame that protects the painting they painted freely; not to paint over it.” He continued, “We will bring Akdong Musician’s innocence and genius to life as they are.”

After recruiting season one’s runner-up Lee Hi, YG helped the singer score three number one songs just seven months after her debut. 

Many are excited to see what kind of storm Akdong Musician will stir up in the K-Pop world with the agency that has lifted many artists to superstardom.
